DESIGNER BIO

Hi there! My name is Victoria, but nearly everyone knows me as Vicki. I’m a Visual Communication Design BFA, with a minor in Computing and Digital Studies, at the University of Notre Dame. I strive to create designs that are expressive, illustrative, and bold, while integrating my drawing skill and keen eye for color. Here at Notre Dame I’ve been involved in Beyond the Dome as the Arts, Media, and Entertainment Career Community Leader, where I have been able to connect creative students with career development and discernment resources. When I’m not creating or studying, I’m playing video games or sharing stories with my friends.

PROJECT STATEMENT

Public schools are a crucial part of communities across the United States, yet they have become a divisive part of political discussion. They often face criticism for failing to perform, but the reality is that many of them weren’t set up for success in the first place. The way our public schools are currently funded relies heavily on local property taxes, which has caused inequality in the amount of funds each school district receives. This negatively impacts the quality of education for students, especially those living in lower income communities. Not only do students suffer academically, but they also lose enrichment opportunities, access to creative outlets, a sense of belonging to a community, and opportunities to develop empathy.

We are Indivisible is an exhibit that encourages others to unite behind one cause: equitable public education. This project consists of five posters that inform the audience about what is at stake when public schools are underfunded. Additionally, an interactive component invites the audience to reflect on the ways schools enrich their lives, beyond academics, and create dialogue around the value of public education for everyone. The goal of this project is to remind the audience why public education plays a significant role in the success of our society, and empower them to fight for change.
