The class of 2021

Greetings students, faculty, parents, alumni, and friends of the Department of Art, Art History and Design. Congratulations to our seniors and graduate students on the completion of their thesis projects. These students are a truly remarkable group of creative and talented individuals. It has been impressive to witness their dedication and personal resolve in a year of unprecedented challenges. Our student's educational achievements in studio art or design have prepared them to be leaders, thinkers, and makers in the 21st century’s creative economy. Their futures are filled with incredible opportunities as they chase their passions, strive for success, and realize dreams. Creative study deepens our understanding of human endeavors, provokes the expansion of intellectual boundaries, and broadens our capacity to comprehend and appreciate the lives of others. We couldn’t be prouder of our graduate's accomplishments. They will leave us as creative leaders, driven change-makers, and life-long learners.

The class of 2020

This spring, students, faculty, and staff navigated the unexpected challenge of moving all our courses online due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. The studios were shuttered, the campus was closed, and our physical collaborations were replaced with a screen. We have faced an unprecedented time and have been asked to do unprecedented work. Through it all we continue to work, create, and build community. It has been incredibly impressive to witness the innovative solutions, personal resolve, and speed with which our faculty and students have adapted to online instruction. It’s clearly not been ideal but it has taught us much about what’s possible, revealing new and interesting ways to engage in creative study.

The Class of 2020 has arrived at graduation unlike any class before them, but we couldn’t be prouder of their accomplishments. They will leave us as creative leaders, driven change-makers, and life-long learners.
