Through my installation, I seek to explore the complex and often contradictory experiences of immigrants in the United States. I hope to shed light on the challenges and obstacles faced by those who come to this country seeking a better life, while also acknowledging the resilience and strength of those who persist in the face of adversity.

My installation features two immigrant construction workers, each at a different stage of the immigrant experience. The first bust portrays a newly arrived migrant who is full of hope and ready to pursue the American dream. This figure is hopeful and resilient, with a determined expression and a sense of purpose. The second bust represents the harsh reality that many immigrants face after years of living and working in the United States. The skin is peeling off, the features are beaten and worn, and there is a sense of wear and tear that reflects the struggles and challenges of the immigrant experience. This figure is a testament to the inexistence of the American dream, a reminder that for many immigrants, the promise of a better life is elusive and unattainable.

What unites both workers is a chain that links them together. The chain symbolizes the common bond shared by all immigrants, regardless of their country of origin, race, or background. The chain also represents the connections between past and present, between those who came before and those who are still struggling to make a better life in the United States.

Alongside these workers, the installation features a collection of clothes on the ground, representing the immigrants who built the foundation of the country we stand on. These garments are a powerful symbol of the contributions and sacrifices made by immigrants throughout history, from the construction workers who built our cities and infrastructure to the laborers who toiled in fields and factories.

By depicting these two busts side by side and including the clothes of immigrants on the ground, I aim to capture the complexity and nuance of the immigrant experience, and to challenge viewers to see beyond stereotypes and preconceived notions. This installation is a tribute to the millions of immigrants who have contributed to the fabric of our society, and a reminder that their stories deserve to be heard and celebrated.

A través de mi instalación, busco explorar las complejas y a menudo contradictorias experiencias de los inmigrantes en los Estados Unidos. Espero traer luz a los desafíos y obstáculos que enfrentan aquellos que vienen a este país en busca de una vida mejor, al tiempo que reconozco la resiliencia y fuerza de aquellos que persisten ante la adversidad.

Mi instalación presenta dos trabajadores de construcción inmigrantes, cada uno en una etapa diferente de la experiencia inmigrante. El primer busto retrata a un recién llegado migrante que está lleno de esperanza y listo para perseguir el sueño americano. Esta figura esta llena de esperanza, con una expresión determinada y un sentido de propósito. El segundo trabajador representa la dura realidad que muchos inmigrantes enfrentan después de años de vivir y trabajar en los Estados Unidos. La piel se está pelando y desgastando, lo cual que refleja las luchas y desafíos de la experiencia inmigrante. Esta figura es un testimonio de la inexistencia del sueño americano, un recordatorio de que para muchos inmigrantes, la promesa de una vida mejor es elusiva.

La cadena es lo que uno a estos trabajadores. La cadena simboliza el vínculo común compartido por todos los inmigrantes, independientemente de su país de origen, raza o antecedentes. La cadena también representa las conexiones entre el pasado y el presente, entre aquellos que vinieron antes y aquellos que aún luchan por hacer una vida mejor en los Estados Unidos.

Junto a estos trabajadores, la instalación presenta una colección de ropa en el suelo, representando a los inmigrantes que construyeron los cimientos del país en el que nos encontramos. Estas prendas son un poderoso símbolo de las contribuciones y sacrificios realizados por los inmigrantes a lo largo de la historia, desde los trabajadores de construcción que construyeron nuestras ciudades e infraestructura hasta los trabajadores que trabajaron en campos y fábricas.

Al representar estos dos trabajadores uno al lado del otro e incluir la ropa de los inmigrantes en el suelo, mi objetivo es capturar la complejidad y el matiz de la experiencia inmigrante, y desafiar a los espectadores a ver más allá de los estereotipos y las ideas preconcebidas. Esta instalación es un homenaje a los millones de inmigrantes que han contribuido a la tela de nuestra sociedad, y un recordatorio de que sus historias merecen ser escuchadas y celebradas.
